Into Double Digits

Last weekend I got back into running double-digit miles for the first time in about a year. Just this week I registered for my first official half marathon in over 2 years - the Lululemon SeaWheeze virtual race as motivation to stay on track with training. The plan tomorrow is to run 11 miles, do a couple of short runs of 3-4 miles next week, and go for the 13.1 miles next weekend. In addition to taking walks, I've also added some training in the weight room on off days - doing squats or leg presses. So far so good - only 1 small blister that was easy to pop on one of my toes and my knees are holding up pretty well. I've also tried to take the time to elevate my legs after runs in order for the lactic acid to drain and my muscles not to feel as fatigued.
I'm still waiting to register for the 25k mentioned in my previous post - we'll see how the half marathon goes but I'm hopeful that things will go well and I'll be able to do that and possibly one other race prior to the marathon in November. It's good to have a rough outline and check in with one's body from one week to the next. After the half marathon I still plan on dropping my long-run mileage for the following week and doing the same after the 25k run in order to help my legs recover. I'm about at the midway point of my marathon training and I'm looking forward to hitting the halfway mark in terms of mileage as well. Fingers crossed!
